Upper Trap Stretch

Purpose: To facilitate stretch of cervical soft tissues

Procedure: With the patient lying in supine, stand at the head of the plinth. Place the patient’s head in your hands and promote maximal contact across the cranium. To stretch the upper trap, preposition the ipsilateral shoulder girdle into depression with one hand, and passively stretch the patient into cervical flexion, contralateral lateral flexion, and ipsilateral rotation.
