Psoas Major Positional Release
Purpose: To release tension of the psoas major
Procedure: With the patient lying in supine, find the tender muscle to be released. Position the patient in hip flexion and ipsilateral side bending while monitoring psoas major until the position of greatest comfort is found. Hold this position for 90 to 120 seconds, then slowly and passively return the patient to the starting position. You may also incorporate hip rotation for an additional release in the position of greatest comfort, and you may use a swiss ball under the patient’s legs rather than your own body.
