Plantar Fascia Myofascial Release

Purpose: To release restriction and manage pain in the plantar fascia of the foot

Procedure: With the patient lying in supine, grasp the metatarsals in each hand, and apply lateral pressure into the transverse arch of the foot. Follow the tissue three-dimensionally, barrier upon barrier, for a minimum of 3 to 5 minutes. Then, grasp the metatarsals in one hand and the calcaneus in the other and spread open. Sustain pressure as you stretch the longitudinal arch of the foot, following the tissue, barrier upon barrier, for a minimum of 3 to 5 minutes or until the softening effect or release occurs.
