Hip AP Glides
Purpose: To increase flexion ROM and decrease pain in the hip.
Start: Patient lies in supine with their legs hanging off the end of the table. Patient pulls asymptomatic leg to their chest. Therapist stands at the base of the table to the side of the patient.
Procedure: The therapist supports the patient’s symptomatic leg off the side of the table with the therapist’s hand under the distal femur. The therapist places their contralateral hand on the patient’s upper anterior thigh and provides anterior to posterior glides to the hip while providing counterforce with their supporting hand.
Comments: For larger patients the therapist can support the distal femur of the symptomatic leg using a belt around the therapists shoulders.
