Cuboid Whip

Purpose:  To treat a dropped cuboid resulting from weight bearing.

Procedure:  With the patient in prone, grasp the patient’s foot with both hands and bend the knee.  The therapist palpates the patient’s cuboid and places a dummy thumb over the plantar aspect of the cuboid, then the other thumb on top of the dummy thumb.  The therapist’s fingers should wrap around the dorsal aspect of the patient’s foot to help control dorsiflexion and plantarflexion. The therapist should hold the patient’s foot in dorsiflexion, then whip the foot into plantar flexion while simultaneously extending the patient’s knee while maintaining pressure over the cuboid.
